The Women's Impact Fund, a non-profit, charitable organization based in Charlotte, North Carolina, knows first-hand how powerful giving can be to a community. They've been doing it since 2004 by giving grants to non-profit organizations. They've witnessed how their gift of grants has made a significant impact on communities and the lives of those residing there.
Their first grants in 2004 totaled $158,000. Their most recent grants totaled $377,500 and were awarded to nine nonprofits. Their mission is to continue to support nonprofits in their work in the areas of arts, community building, education, environment, health and human services. They have grown to over 400 members and are one of the largest and fastest-growing women's organizations in the country.
Who can apply for grants?
Letters of inquiry are generally accepted every October from nonprofits. Organization projects can be new or expansion of existing programs, as long as the programs fall under the targeted grant areas. In fact, more than two-thirds of grants awarded have been to expand or improve existing programs. The programs must benefit residents of Mecklenburg County. Grants range from $40,000 to $100,000.
The fund has awarded more than $3.7 million in grants since its beginning. The organization is run by women who believe in the power of women's leadership in strengthening communities.
