Women Entrepreneurs in the Digital News Frontier Grant Program

International Women's Media Foundation
Women who work part-time or full-time as freelance news media professionals are eligible to receive a grant of $20,000. Each year, the International Women's Media Foundation awards three Digital News Frontier Grants to women journalists who propose an undertaking that uses digital media in innovative ways to deliver news.

U.S. based women journalists who are either full-time or part-time or freelance news media professionals may apply. The grant provides assistance to women who seek to become online news entrepreneurs. The funding is for startups or companies that indicate strong potential for ongoing performance. One-time only projects are not eligible. Startup proposals must be innovative and have a clear plan for success.

In addition to the grant, recipients will receive professional advice and business coaching from digital news media experts. The training from leading entrepreneurs will provide additional support for women entrepreneurs receiving the grants.

The grants are awarded by the International Women's Media Foundation, founded in 1990 in Washington, D.C. by a group of prominent U.S. female journalists. The non-profit organization works for the advancement of women journalists all over the world. The purpose of the grant is to strengthen the role of women in the news media. The first Digital News Frontier Grant was awarded in 2011.
