The Tribeca Film Festival, an annual event in New York, is offering a $1 million grant this year to the best film maker to pitch their film. The winner will have their feature movie premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival next year, and more women are going after the prize.
The Tribeca Film Festival was founded in 2002 by Jane Rosenthal, Robert De Niro and Craig Hatkoff. It's highlight is the Artists Awards program where filmmakers are honored for their works. This year's grant prize is $1 million, sponsored by AT&T.
Fiona Carter, AT&T’s chief brand officer, asked Jane Rosenthal, the executive chair of Tribeca Enterprises, how to get more women and minorities making films. Money. Both women made it happen.
The grand prize of $1 million will be awarded to the winner to make a feature film that will be premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival next year. Four runners-up will each receive $10,000.
Top honors went this year to three features directed by women. To learn more about Tribeca Film Festival, visit tribecafilm.com/stories/tribeca-2017-jury-awards
