International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) is a new funding initiative supporting journalism produced by and about women. Women anywhere in the world may apply for a grant; grants average about $5,000.
For professional women's journalists around the world
The grants are available to professional women journalists from anywhere in the world. Professional Journalism must be the applicant’s primary profession, and they must have three or more years of professional journalism experience in order to apply.
Grants will be awarded to cover reporting-related costs including travel (flights, ground transportation, drivers), logistics, visa fees, and payment for fixers/translators. When applying all answers and documents must be in English. Grants will be funded three times per year. Approximately $100,000 will be dispersed each year. Grant sizes will depend on the project pitched – most grants will average approximately $5,000 USD.
Advancing gender balancing reporting
The purpose of the grants is to provide opportunities for women journalists to pursue gender-sensitive coverage of underreported, internationally important stories. The IWMF established these grants to advance the contributions of women in the media around the world.
