If you are a techie who lives in New York and has a passion for unmanned systems, consider entering the Genius NY Grant Contest. Businesses whose focus is in Unmanned Aerial (drones), including hardware, software, and analytics may apply. Businesses must be a startup or an existing business with less that $500,000 per year in revenue.
How much are the grants?
Six finalists are chosen to compete for a chance at up to $1 million in funding. First place wins $1 million; second place $600,000; third place $400,000; and fourth through sixth places win $250,000. Businesses must be willing to live full-time in Central New York for the 11 1/2 month acceleration period.
Technology criteria
The competition is open only to companies focused on unmanned systems, including hardware, software and analytics. This can include unmanned ground, aerial, and marine systems; data systems and platforms.
Phase 1 is a 3-month accelerator with prizes of more than $2.75 million. Phase 2 is a 9-month program that culminates with an Investor Demo Day in front of investors and program judges.
The Genius NY program is one of the largest business competitions for unmanned systems in the world. It is funded with $5 million from NYS Empire State Development (ESD) and from contributing sponsors.
