Appalachian Women's Fund Gives Grants to Non-Profits

Appalachian Women's Fund
The Appalachian Women's Fund was founded in 2007 to help bring positive changes to women living in the Appalachian mountains of northwestern North Carolina. The organization gives grants to non-profit organizations whose mission is to help women and girls reach their full potential.

Grants are not given to individuals but to small businesses and other organizations who provide programs and services that will improve the financial and economic situation for women and girls residing in northwestern North Carolina. The programs must be designed specifically for females. Grants can range from $2,500 to $10,000.

Past grant recipients have been business who have helped victims of domestic violence become self-sustaining, provide summer school programs that will enable women to graduate, provide shelter to women who are homeless, and offer health care services to women in need. The grants have been awarded to businesses who have helped women farmers to manage their farm businesses, food pantries have helped feed older women, and other women have been helped to enter the work force.

Non-profits interested in applying for the grants may send a letter of intent which describes their business and the impact it will have on Appalachian women. Applications may be submitted once a year in July with grant recipients notified in October of their award.
