ANNpower Vital Voices Leadership Grants Help High School Girls

Ann Power & Vital Voices
ANN INC. is the parent company of Ann Taylor and LOFT in New York. Each year, the company awards grants to young high school girls who work hard to make a positive social change in their communities. The grants encourage young women to empower themselves and become tomorrow's leaders.

At the 2011 Vital Voices Global Leadership Awards, young women who were high school sophomores and juniors were invited to develop project ideas that would positively impact their communities. Fifty were then chosen to participate in a three-day leadership training and mentorship program in Washington, DC.

The participants are then eligible to receive ANNpower Grants of up to $2,500. The grants can be used to help them implement their projects in their own communities.

Examples of projects that received grants included stores for low-income families, creating art projects with recycled materials, human trafficking education programs, cultural exchange programs, and others.

The ANNpower Vital Voices Initiative helps empower young women across the nation and teach them leadership skills. More than $1.3 million has been invested in the program by ANN INC. over a four-year period. The work of the grant recipients is estimated to benefit more than 5,000 people in communities across the country.
