If you need housing assistance, there are federal grants and programs that can help cover certain costs. Check out these helpful housing grants for women to find a solution that works best for you.
Housing Choice Voucher Program
Funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), this program (often referred to as Section 8) helps low-income apartment owners reduce their rent. HUD works to find both public and private housing that’s accessible and safe for families, seniors, minorities, and disabled individuals. All HUD applicants are required to first meet with a local public housing agent to ensure that the living situation won’t feed into any pre-existing problems.

If you don’t want to live in the housing complexes that HUD partners with, you can find your own place and still receive the program’s help. You’ll get a voucher that will help pay for all or part of the rent. If you choose to relocate through HUD, you don’t have to leave your furniture or other home amenities behind—they can come with you. If you’re interested in applying for a voucher or need more information, locate your local housing counseling agency.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
Many homeowners and renters may find themselves unable to pay utility bills. LIHEAP helps struggling families and individuals cover their utility costs in a variety of ways. Recipients can use this grant toward home energy crises, weatherization, and home repairs to help decrease energy costs. To be applicable for this grant, recipients must have a low income that’s within a certain percentage of the poverty line.

Anyone who finds themselves unable to cover housing costs often feel stressed and overwhelmed. Let these housing grants for women help you finance your living situation.
