Grants for Women Returning to College

1. The American Association of University Women: With a history of improving educational and professional opportunities for women in the United States, AAUW is one of largest sources of funding for women. From 2018-19, they’ve provided $3.9 million to 250 women and non-profit organizations. AAUW wants to break down barriers and provide a fair chance for women in the world. They have a plethora of fellowships and grants, including Career Development Grants and Community Action Grants.

2. The Jeanette Rankin Women’s Scholarship Fund: This foundation was created to give women 35 or older the opportunity to go back to school. They awarded their first scholarship in 1978, and they have since awarded $2.75 million in scholarships and grants to more than 1,000 low-income women. They know that an education can mean the difference between making a living and making a life.

3. PEO Program for Continuing Education Grant: PEO has grants for women going back to school. The Philanthropic Education Organization offers up to $3,000 in need-based grants to women who have experienced an interrupted education. This grant is typically awarded to those who need help improving or gaining skills that are necessary for employment.

4. Soroptimist Live Your Dreams Award: Each year, more than $2 million education grants are disbursed through this program to help 1,500 women. Since 1972, the Live Your Dream Award has awarded $30 million to thousands of deserving women. These awards are special because they give recipients full financial autonomy to offset any higher-education costs.
