61 Women Entrepreneurs Graduate From Walmart India’s Program

Walmart India, a fully-owned subsidiary of Walmart Inc. has recently held the culmination of the second edition of its Women Entrepreneurship Development Program (WEDP 2.0). The graduation that took place in the city of Hyderabad, India was attended by entrepreneurs.

The WEDP 2.0 program that started in September 2017 helped 61 women-owned businesses through training and mentoring. It enhanced the skills and capabilities of women to help them build a successful and sustainable business.

The program that included classroom training, field visits, and subject matter experts covered several important areas in running a business such as finance, operations, marketing, social media, legal and compliance, among others.

"WEDP has grown over the past two years and has become our flagship program with a vision of ushering in an inclusive eco-system for women’s entrepreneurs. With each passing year, we aim to further strengthen this vision by continuing to support more WOBs by bringing them into the supply chain and creating a pipeline of diverse suppliers for the industry as a whole through training," Krish Iyer, president and CEO, Walmart India said in a statement.

Committing to further empower women entrepreneurs, the third edition of the WEDP is on its way. Furthermore, Walmart Inc. has sourced $20 billion from women-owned businesses in the United States and double from WOBs internationally.
