MGM Resorts International was just named one of America's Top Corporations for Women's Business Enterprises in 2016. The company joins a prestigious group of 59 companies that have been recognized by The Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) for providing women-owned businesses with opportunities for economic participation.
Since 1999, WBENC has been holding an annual "Top Corporations" list honoring corporations for their work and achievements in supplier diversity initiatives that results in growth for women-owned businesses. When the WBENC program began, it honored just 17 corporations. Now the list has grown to 59.
Why diversity needs to be recognized
The support that women-owned businesses receive from companies who utilize them as suppliers in domestic and international markets "has a direct and positive impact on our Company, our communities and our nation's economy," explains Phyllis A. James, Chief Diversity and Corporate Responsibility Officer for MGM Resorts International. MGM has been committed to supporting women-owned businesses since 2001, spending $4 billion with diverse-owned suppliers, contractors and service providers since the beginning of their diversity program.
MGM Resorts International is the only company based in Nevada that has been included on WBENC's latest list.
WBENC is a nonprofit organization and the leading third-party certifier of businesses owned and operated by women. They are supported through contributions from corporations, foundations and individuals that support its mission and programs.
