A Job Layoff Leads to a Successful Business for This Brooklyn Female Entrepreneur
Kristine did everything right. She went to fashion design school, graduating from Syracuse University's fashion design program and then began working in her dream career. But just a few short years into her career, she was out of work because her employer had to close their doors. So, what did she do? She found yoga. Or, maybe yoga found her...

Yoga changed her life

Kristine Deer absorbed herself in yoga classes. It was then that she used her fashion design creativity to solve a problem: comfortable workout clothes. She started designing comfortable yet stylish and sexy yoga clothes. She made them in her bedroom, then took them to yoga classes to get the opinions of her instructor as well as other classmates. Little did she realize that what started as a way for her to stay focused after losing her job would turn into owning her own business.

She started in her own bedroom

After selling her clothing line on Etsy, she soon outgrew her bedroom space and had to get a studio to continue her work. Over the next 3 years, the company continued to grow. Now her products are manufactured in New Jersey and New York City. The clothing is made from American fabrics and follow strictly eco-friendly guidelines. Kristine's product line is called K-Deer and can be purchased online.

K-Deer activewear is sold around the world to yoga studios, fitness boutiques and select online retailers. But what Kristine is most proud of is that her company is an "all-female team is one of our greatest assets; made for women, by women."
