The name Soroptimist, means "best for women," and that's the mission of the Soroptimist organization of women. Soroptimists are women at their best, working to help other women to be their best. Through more than 1,300 clubs in 10 countries, Soroptimist offers grants to improve the lives of women and girls around the world.
Non-profit organizations may contact their local Soroptimist club for information on the types of programs that are eligible for grants. Clubs vary around the country. Recently, for example, the Soroptimist club located in the Treasure Island and Palm Beach, Florida area awarded grants to three young women for their volunteer service to the community. Each received a $1,000 grant.
The Florida club also awarded two Women's Opportunity Awards to local women to help them pursue their education. These awards are reserved for women who have had obstacles in their lives that prevented them from completing their education and careers. Eligible women are those who are the sole support for their families.
