Overall, American women still make 77 cents on each dollar earned by men. But in some parts of the U.S., women are earning equal to or even more than their male counterparts. If you're looking for equal pay, you might consider one of these cities. These are the top 10 cities in Forbes recent list of 20 best-paying cities for women.

  1. Napa, California - home of the world's most famous wine growing and production, where women's income is 94 percent of men's. Women's median salary is $48,985.
  2. Boulder, Colorado - women's income is 75 percent of men's. Women's median salary is $49,691.
  3. Hartford, Connecticut - women's income is 81 percent of men's. Women's median salary is $49,891.
  4. Boston, Massachusetts - women's income is 77 percent of men's. Women's median salary is $50,020.
  5. Torrington, Connecticut - women's income is 82 percent of men's. Women's median salary is $50,200.
  6. Trenton, New Jersey - women's income is 81 percent of men's. Women's median salary is $52,319.
  7. San Francisco, California - women's income is 84 percent of men's. Women's median salary is $54,376.
  8. Bridgeport, Connecticut - women's income is 73 percent of men's. Women's median salary is $54,844.
