Women in Philanthropy Awards $55,000 in Annual Grants

 Eastern Carolina Community Foundation
Ten non-profit, small businesses in Eastern South Carolina recently received small business grants from the Women in Philanthropy organization. The ten grants totaled $55,000.

Women in Philanthropy was created by the Eastern Carolina Community Foundation in 2009 and has given over $200,000 in 40 grant awards to 25 individual organizations to improve the Pee Dee region. Grants have been given to organizations who have helped abused women and children, cancer patients needing medications, senior citizens needing in home nurse visits, handicapped children to attend camp for a week, just to name a few.

Eligible organizations must be non-profits whose small businesses support an existing or emerging community need in the areas of health, nutrition and assistance to victims of violence, neglect or poverty. The organization consists of over 80 women who are dedicated to building better communities and improving the lives of those in them.

Applications are accepted every year for the grants. Business owners interested must submit applications and also make presentations to the members of the Women in Philanthropy grant committee. Grants are awarded based on the presentations and votes from Women in Philanthropy members.
