La Cocina
Based in San Francisco, La Cocina helps minority women and women from immigrant communities grow their food businesses. Assistance is focused on low-income women who make food products from their homes. Help is in the form of providing kitchen space, technology, and access to market opportunities. The goal is to strengthen their businesses to become sustainable enterprises that support their families and serve their communities.
Women's Trust
This non-profit organization provides loans to small businesses owned by women in Ghana. These small businesses provide products and services such as baked goods, seamstress services, and hair salons. The micro loans are small, starting out at just over $100. Once the first loan is repaid, women entrepreneurs can continue to receive higher amounts, up to $5,000; no collateral is required. The nonprofit also offers business training, education, and health care to women entrepreneurs to round out not only their business needs but the needs of their families, too.
The Tony Burch Foundation
The Tory Burch Foundation in New York, in partnership with Accion USA, a micro-lender, helps low-income women entrepreneurs in the U.S. by providing micro loans and financial services. Low-interest loans range from $500 to $50,000 to help low-income American women who want to start small businesses. In addition, grants are available to non-profit businesses; grants do not have to be repaid.
Women's Business Development Center
This Chicago-based non-profit organization helps women entrepreneurs become self-sufficient. Their programs help both start-ups and established businesses, women veterans who want to start their own business, and Latino women who want to expand their businesses. Help is in the form of financial assistance and business services, including business workshops, counseling, and providing resources for grants and other funding.
The Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women
This non-profit organization provides education, mentoring, and coaching for women entrepreneurs in the US and internationally. Women from war-torn countries and countries in poverty are brought to the U.S. for training. The education and training they receive help them to be able to grow their small businesses. In addition, the program is designed for women entrepreneurs who complete the program to teach others when they return. The goal is to help more women become leaders in the business world.
