Open Meadows Foundation is a non-profit organization located in Bronx, New York, that is managed by women volunteers. Every year since 1998, the organization has awarded grants to women-owned businesses whose business or projects benefit women and girls, particularly those from disadvantaged communities.
Each February and August, the organization accepts proposals from businesses led by women. Up to $2,000 in grant money is awarded to small businesses that have financial need and have exhausted other sources for financial support. The businesses must reflect diversity and non discrimination, they must be non-profit in nature, and they must have income under $150,000 per year.
Examples of some of the women-run organizations that have received grants include health, film making, music, entertainment, recreation, leadership skills training, education about violence against women, and shelters for homeless women. In addition, the organization provides special funds that support specific projects, such as the Ellen Dougherty Activist Fund for Young Women that awards grants to young women 19 and under who create projects focused on activism and social change.
Deadlines for submitting proposals are February 15 and August 15 of each year. Grant recipients represent women-led organizations across the country.
