Soroptimist International of Visalia, California, gives annual grants to women who are sole providers of their families and seek to improve their lives. Each year the non-profit organization seeks nominations for its Women's Opportunity Awards.
The grants range from $1,000 to $3,000 and may be just what some women need to fill the gap as they pursue education or training necessary to improve their lives, employment situation or even start a new business. The grant money covers such items as tuition, education materials, transportation, child care and other household expenses.
Women who currently have no degree may apply. The grant money is specifically for costs associated with education, vocation/skills training. This financial assistance has helped many women who have overcome severe obstacles in their lives. It can provide needed funding for women who need new training and skills in order to pursue a career or start a business of their own.
