Washington's "Get Certified" Campaign Helps More Women in Business Get Government Contracts

Getting business contracts from the government is a coveted prize for small business owners. It's also where the money is, but, unfortunately, most of these contracts go to men. In order for women in business to compete, they must become certified. The state of Washington wants to help.

What certification means

The Office of Minority and Women’s Business Enterprises (OMWBE) is the sole certifying agency for minority, women, and disadvantaged small businesses in  the state of Washington. Federal and state government agencies want to do business with minority-owned companies and have a requirement that a certain percentage of its recipients for funding be minority-owned businesses. So, having a minority-owned business certification can help you gain access to more public and private sector programs.

"Get Certified"

The Washington State Office of Minority and Women’s Business Enterprises (OMWBEs) is having a campaign called “Get Certified” that offers certification opportunities at 35 locations throughout the state. The campaign will run from January 20-23. The workshops will explain the different types of certification programs available and help business owners choose which ones are right for them.
