Rosalind Brewer, CEO of Sam's Club, Giving Away $8.8 Million to Women and Minority Business Owners

Women, minorities and veterans who own their own businesses are considered part of America's underserved. This is exactly the target group Sam's Club has pledged to help with their Sam's Club Giving Awards program.

Giving to those who need help

Sam's Club has pledged $8.8 million in grants to small businesses owned by women, minorities and veterans. Their 5-year program began in 2015 and it works by awarding millions of dollars to nonprofit organizations whose work increases access to capital and better education for underserved business owners across America.

Capital has always been a big challenge for small business owners, especially businesses owned by women, minorities and veterans in low-to-moderate income communities. Sam's Club Giving Awards program is dedicated to making more funding available to these businesses. Funding from Sam's Club increases access for small business owners to more capital.

These are some of the organizations that are being funded by Sam's Club:

* Accion
* Community Reinvestment Fund USA
* Small Business Majority Foundation
* Grameen America
* SCORE America Small Business Championship
* Enactus United States

Each organization offers programs, education and other assistance that increases access to capital for small business owners. It can include affordable business loans, technical assistance, free gift cards and business mentoring, and more.

Sam’s Club is owned by Walmart Stores, Inc. and is a leading membership warehouse club offering superior products, savings and services to millions of members. The organization has 652 clubs in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
