Women Entrepreneurs in Boston Get Support From the Mayor With "Women Entrepreneurs Week"
Women Entrepreneurs Week in Boston will be celebrated the week of October 12, 2015. The new program is called Walsh's Women Entrepreneurs Boston (WE BOS), initiated by Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh. It is designed to help advance women entrepreneurs in Boston by providing them with skills, technical assistance and networking events that will help them launch and grow their businesses.

Women Entrepreneurs Week

During the week of October 12, events and programs will take place around the city of Boston. The events will provide information on legal issues faced by entrepreneurs, different funding sources, marketing and distribution strategies, and networking opportunities. The program was initiated by Boston's mayor in response to the growing number of businesses in Boston that are owned by women.

Boston - a growing market for female entrepreneurs

In introducing the new program, Mayor Walsh pointed to several statistics regarding women-owned businesses in Boston.

  • Women-owned businesses represent more than $4 billion in sales and contribute nearly $7.6 billion to the Gross City Product in Boston.
  • Boston now has more than 18,000 women-owned businesses that employ more than 26,200 people.
  • Women-owned businesses increase the tax revenue in Boston by more than $208 million, and increase consumer spending by $1.4 billion.
  • Women represent more than half of all residents in Boston.

Women Entrepreneurs Week takes place the week of October 12, 2015 and is a city-wide event.
