Farming Grants Available For Women

Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture
Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture (BRWIA) is now taking applications for the Mary Boyer Sustainable Food and Agriculture Grant program. The grant program is available to women farmers, ranchers, and producers in the counties of Alleghany, Avery, Ashe, Caldwell, Watauga, Wilkes, Mitchell, and Yancey in North Carolina and in Johnson County, Tennessee.

Eligible female farmers, ranchers, and processors must be focused on creating solutions to obstacles in farming and ranching in the areas of sustainability and marketing in the applicable counties. Examples of awards given to past recipients include no-till organic farming, alternatives to carcinogenic chemicals used for weed control, and water conservation program used in irrigation.

The purpose of the grant program is to support female farmers, ranchers and processors which will also help strengthen local food systems. The grants encourage more women to become involved in sustainable food and agriculture projects or seek more educational opportunities in sustainable food and agriculture. Application deadline is March 1.

The grant is offered by Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture, a non-profit organization based in Boone, North Carolina. The organization was established in 2003 and is dedicated to increasing opportunities for women in farming and food processing, fostering more sustainable farming practices, and improving food safety.
