Grants Help Women Who Need Breast Reconstructive Surgery

The Plastic Surgery Foundation
Breast reconstruction surgery is for women who have had all or part of a breast removed. The purpose of the surgery is to rebuilt the breast as close as possible to its former size and shape. This is considered an important step for many women who have lost breasts due to cancer. The surgery makes them feel whole again.

Each year more than 296,000 women in the U.S. face breast cancer and possible mastectomy, or removal of the breast. The Plastic Surgery Foundation (PSF) wants to help by offering Breast Reconstruction Surgery Charitable Care grants up to $15,000. The grants are for non-profit organizations that donate surgical care to breast reconstruction patients who are in financial need. Organizations must serve patients residing in Salt Lake City, Utah or Newark, New Jersey. The deadline for applications is April 4, 2014.

The organization is also offering a second grant, Breast Reconstruction Surgery Public Awareness Grants, for non-profits who want to increase awareness of breast reconstruction surgery. The grants are up to $10,000 with the deadline for application by April 4, 2014.

The Plastic Surgery Foundation, located in Arlington Heights, Illinois, supports research and development of new and better ways to improve people's lives through plastic surgery. The grants are funded through the organization's Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Fund. The BRA Fund has raised more than $710,000 to support not only research, projects, and programs, and to help fund charitable surgical care of women who need of post-mastectomy breast reconstruction.
