A total of 12 students receive awards for projects that result in the recruitment and retaining of more girls and women in areas of technology. The projects can include professional development, mentoring and other support. Each project is awarded $750.
Students at colleges and universities around the country may receive funding for Student Seed Fund programs. The programs can offer workshops, after-school programs, student mentoring, peer support, professional training, and other opportunities for female elementary, middle-school, high-school, undergraduate, and graduate students to consider careers in computer science.
The program is sponsored by the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) which has given more than $34,500 in funding to support these student-run programs at universities and colleges nationwide. NCWIT is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing women's participation in computing and technology. The organization receives financial support from Symantec, the National Science Foundation, Microsoft, Bank of America, Avaya, Pfizer, Merck, Turner, AT&T, Bloomberg, EMC, Google, Motorola, Qualcomm, Intel, HP, and more than 350 universities, companies, non-profits, and government organizations nationwide.
