Funding Sources for Women in the Arts

WomenArts
Women artists--from writers, poets, film artists, playwrights, television script writers, and more--looking for grants to support their artistic work may well find the one they are looking for on the WomenArts Network. The online directory provides a central location where women can search for grants and fellowships ranging from $1,000 up to $50,000.

Each grant is designed to support a specific category of artists. Some of the grants are for women from specific geographic areas, diversity groups, and age groups. The Constance Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts grant, for example, offers grants of $5,000 to women 21 or older from western New York State who are visual and literary artists. The Sustainable Arts Foundation supports artists and writers with children (specifically a child under the age of 18) with grants of $6,000.

There are also grants for minority women such as the Hurston/Wright LEGACY Award of $10,000 for African American writers of fiction, non-fiction and poetry, and the Cintas Foundation, Inc. Fellowship for individuals of Cuban descent in fine arts, music, and literature.

WomenArts Network provides information on grant sources, newsletters, tips for new artists, and profiles of over 1,500 artists and organizations across the country.
