Zonta Club Awards Virginia Wrage Memorial Grants

Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley
Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley, California recently awarded Virginia Wrage Memorial Grants to four area women. A total of $8,000 was divided equally among the four recipients.

The Virginia Wrage Memorial Grant is named aftger Virginia Wrage who was a member of Zonta, an international organization dedicated to advancing opportunities for women. The grant recognizes the efforts of women, like Virginia, who have experienced a life-altering event and are in need of assistance to overcome adverse circumstances.

At the age of 50, Virginia faced great adversities in her life but eventually reached her dream to become a flight attendant. Prior to her death two years later, the grant was established to help other women who have experienced similar circumstances. Since 1995, the fund has awarded grants each year to deserving mature women.

Recipients of the Virginia Wrage Memorial Grant have experienced life-threatening illness, spousal abuse, crime, single parenting of special needs children and other life-changing crises. Many of the women are using the grant money to begin or finish their education and continue to focus on their future.

Zonta International has more than 1,200 clubs in 63 countries that include business executives and professionals. Since 1919, the organization and its 30,000 members has continued to work together to help women worldwide become self-sufficient and attain their professional and personal goals.
