Women's Fund of Central Indiana Gives More Than $350,000 in Grants

Women's Fund of Central Indiana
The Women's Fund of Central Indiana is a non-profit organization established in 1999 to support programs and causes that strengthen and build the community. Their specific goal is to award grants that will help women and girls achieve success and overcome obstacles to their success.

Some of the programs that have received grants include child care scholarships for children of low-income single moms so they can continue their education, basketball camp for girls between the ages of 9 and 14 from low-income families, money for start-up organizations, and scholarships for women who could not afford to attend college on their own.

One matching grant was awarded to Habitat for Humanity of Johnson County to support the Women's Build project which raises money to build a house for a single female-headed family. Another project that received grant money was the Moving Forward Project, which helps women who are ex-offenders lead a self-sufficient life.

The organizations receiving grants are non-profits, many owned and operated by women, who provide services for women that represent vital areas such as domestic violence, care giving, low income, and services that provide younger women direction and strength. Other important areas for grant recipients include health, economic development and empowerment.

The Women's Fund has awarded over $4.5 million through 306 grants to 101 women and girl serving nonprofit organizations in central Indiana. It is a specific fund within the Central Indiana Community Foundation specifically serving the needs of women.
