Women's Enterprise Development Center
Small women-owned businesses across the lower Hudson Valley in New York have an opportunity to earn grant money from the Lanza Enterprise Award Program (LEAP) to boost their businesses. Through funding by the Lanza Family Foundation and collaboration from the Women's Research and Education Fund and the Women's Development Enterprise Center, women from all kinds of micro businesses can qualify for grant money up to $5,000.

Eligible women must own at least 51% of their business, have a sound business plan, be able to describe how the grant will improve the business, and explain exactly how the money will be spent. Approved business expenditures include inventory, equipment and professional services.

Some of the businesses that have received grant money include commercial art and graphic design, baking companies, dog day care, construction, communications, clothing and food preparation companies. Five grants of $5,000 each and five grants of $4,000 each are awarded.

The Women's Enterprise Development Center (WEDC) is a non-profit organization founded in 1997 to help women-owned small businesses grow and succeed. The organization supports women entrepreneurs through grants, training and funding for minority women and women who are economically disadvantaged. Support is offered to both start up companies as well as established businesses owned by women.

The Women’s Research and Education Fund (WREF) is a non-profit organization in Westchester County that was formed in 1989. Its purpose is to provide education for women and help eliminate discrimination.
